WOO’s Cult Classic Debut Gets Expanded Reissue via Independent Project Records

U.K. cult band WOO will reissue their genre-defying 1982 debut album, Whichever Way You Are Going, You Are Going Wrong, as an expanded, remixed, and remastered edition on January 16, 2026, Independent Project Records (IPR) announced today.

The news is accompanied by the immediate release of the first single, “Swingtime,” which is available now on all digital outlets.

A Definitive Edition of a Timeless Record

Originally released on the brothers’ own The Sunshine Series Records label, the expanded edition will feature new cover art and ten previously unreleased bonus tracks compiled as a “mini-album.”

The release marks a significant moment for fans of the duo, brothers Mark Ives and Clive Ives, whose early work on this album introduced the world to their “wild sonic experimentations.”

“Mark and I had been home recording for five very prolific years before Whichever Way You Are Going, You Are Going Wrong was compiled,” says WOO’s Clive Ives. “The thirteen tracks we selected from this period are very diverse in style, yet magically complimentary.”

The original 1982 LP blended diverse sounds, from “kaleidoscopic jazz and analogue electronica” to “free-flowing pop and unearthly muzak,” earning praise from critics like Melody Maker, which noted WOO could “sound as soft as a Martini ad, as sharp as a stab of conscience and often, brilliantly, both.”

Formats and Bonus Content

The sumptuous new package will be available in multiple formats:

  • Vinyl: Both black and a limited edition clear vinyl will be offered.
  • CD: A Special Edition CD format.
  • Digital: Full digital release.

The bonus mini-album features rare recordings from the late ’70s and ’80s, assembled by the Ives brothers to capture the same spirit of their groundbreaking debut.

This reissue is the second WOO release affiliated with Independent Project Records since its relaunch in 2020. IPR has been lauded for its unique approach, which Flood Magazine highlighted in 2024, noting that WOO “has a tendency of coloring their avant-garde, ambient-based blends of music in bright, colorful tones.”
